tech
Open University insists that all its student use Net Beans 4.1 instead of one of the more recent incarnations.
Net Beans 4.1 has multiple compatibility issues with “Windows 7″ and considering the course i am doing is programming it is annoying this wasn’t taken into account.
Anyway i switched on Net Beans today hoping to finish one of the questions on my assignment due next Thursday and ……. nothing. If i had serious trouble fixing this (it took me 2 hours ish) it could have effected the quality of my work.
Most of the problem fixing this came from making sure my enviroment had the university standard releases.
Bought a new domain name http://audio-head.co.uk
I have used the name audio_head on the internet for about 10 years so its nice to have the domain name to match (Geek Squad). Not sure what i am going to do with it. Maybe it will be a place to put some test javascripts i will be working on for uni. Who knows?
Tried to switch domain name registrars….. When the domain went down for a while I am guessing it crashed my MySQL database. When I got back up and running Wordpress was messed up asking me to re-install. When I tried to refresh my Wordpress install I got the error….
Error No. 1033 Incorrect information in file: ‘filename’
This, let me tell you, is NOT shits and giggles to fix. After 2+ hours of research I found this error is usually associated with server crashes and an incorrect version of .my.cnf the configuration file for MySQL.
The problem is most people, not running a dedicated server, have no access to the etc/ folder on their MySQL server.
Was coming to accept the loss of my database and starting again when I randomly decided to check my site and it was back up and running. Why! Why! WHY! Even though I am amazingly grateful that my history of bad political/tech commentary has been saved I would love to know a reason for this.
I know I am going get Google hits for this error and all I can say to you guys is no solution here yet sorry!
Answers on a postcard….
Going through my web site referrers I noticed a lot of referrals from site and blogs I had never heard of. Visiting these sites I noticed they all had one thing in common, they where all stealing my bandwidth.
Time to hot-link them some GOATSE for revenge? Na I’m not quite that childish just replaced the images with blank ones.
I have plenty bandwidth of course, because this is only a small personal blog and the requests weren’t massive however I fail to see why I should be hosting things for this person.

Can anyone see even the smallest reason why I would host something for her……ermmmmm. NEVERMIND…. thats not the point.
It’s possible I will try and implement some PHP to stop this happening or I might just leave it a while and screw around with the next person foolish enough to hot-link me.
Update
Yeah so i decided to have a little bit of fun here are some of the results:
I wonder if this guy will get band from this forum?
